Oregon
Capital

The Oregon capital is located in the beautiful city of Salem.
This wasn’t always true as the Oregon capital has been located in
several cities. The first Oregon capital was Oregon City, just
northeast of Salem and the official end of the Oregon Trail. In 1851,
the territorial government decided to move the Oregon capital to
Salem. In 1855, it was moved to Corvallis, just south of Salem. Later
that year it was moved back and Salem became the final and official
Oregon capital.
Salem
was an appropriate choice for the Oregon capital because of its central
location in the hub of the agricultural paradise known as the Willamette Valley.
The Native Americans called this land Chemeketa which has been interpreted as
the meeting or resting place.
The
Andrea Bed and Breakfast Inn provides a perfect illustration of how Salem is
still both a meeting and a resting place. At the Andrea Bed and Breakfast, you
are just minutes away from the meeting places of the Oregon capital and
yet can completely immerse yourself in one of the finest resting places in the
area. Nestled in the beautiful west hills of Salem, lawmakers or other business
visitors can retreat to this luxurious hideaway for relaxation and peaceful
serenity. It is truly the best of both worlds. The lush gardens and forested
seclusion of the Andrea Bed and Breakfast provide a haven of exquisite comfort
while just minutes away a visitor has access to all of the various activities of
the Oregon capital.
